Participants would be tested for progress, and performance reviewed frequently

  1. A test based on multiple choice questions. – 30 minutes

  2. A written examination to test the professional use of English. – 60 minutes

  3. An interview to test the verbal communication in a meeting. – 15 minutes each

  4. A presentation in the classroom (online, to be recorded for assessment) – 5 to 7 minutes each.

  5. A PowerPoint slide presentation to be presented in the company premises.

  6. A brief project submission with their own feedback about their progress. (500 words)

Foundation Course in English Grammar


Course Overview:

This course aims to provide a solid foundation in English grammar for beginners. It will cover essential grammar rules, sentence structures, and practical usage to help students improve their writing and speaking skills. The course is designed to be interactive, with a mix of lectures, exercises, and practical applications.


Course Duration:

12 weeks (3 months), with 2 classes per week (1.5 hours each)


Week 1-2: Introduction to English Grammar

  • Class 1: Course Introduction and Objectives

  • Overview of the course structure

  • Importance of grammar in language learning

  • Basic parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections

  • Class 2: Sentence Structure

  • Understanding subject, predicate, and objects

  • Types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory

Week 3-4: Nouns and Pronouns

  • Class 3: Nouns

  • Types of nouns: common, proper, collective, abstract, and concrete

  • Singular and plural forms

  • Possessive nouns

  • Class 4: Pronouns

  • Types of pronouns: personal, possessive, reflexive, relative, demonstrative, interrogative, and indefinite

  • Pronoun-antecedent agreement

Week 5-6: Verbs and Tenses

  • Class 5: Verbs

  • Types of verbs: action, linking, and auxiliary

  • Regular and irregular verbs

  • Verb forms: base, past, past participle, and present participle

  • Class 6: Tenses

  • Present, past, and future tenses

  • Simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous forms

Week 7-8: Adjectives and Adverbs

  • Class 7: Adjectives

  • Types of adjectives: descriptive, quantitative, demonstrative, possessive, and interrogative

  • Comparative and superlative forms

  • Order of adjectives

  • Class 8: Adverbs

  • Types of adverbs: manner, place, time, frequency, degree, and interrogative

  • Comparative and superlative forms

  • Position of adverbs in a sentence

Week 9-10: Prepositions and Conjunctions

  • Class 9: Prepositions

  • Types of prepositions: time, place, direction, and agent

  • Prepositional phrases

  • Common preposition errors

  • Class 10: Conjunctions

  • Types of conjunctions: coordinating, subordinating, and correlative

  • Using conjunctions to connect clauses and sentences

Week 11: Articles and Determiners

  • Class 11: Articles

  • Definite and indefinite articles

  • Rules for using articles

  • Common article errors

  • Class 12: Determiners

  • Types of determiners: articles, demonstratives, possessives, quantifiers, and numbers

  • Using determiners correctly

Week 12: Review and Practice

  • Class 13: Review

  • Recap of all topics covered

  • Common grammar mistakes and how to avoid them
